Abstract:

Plasma hemopexin activity in pregnancy and preeclampsia.

OBJECTIVE Plasma hemopexin activity, associated with increased vascular permeability, was evaluated in healthy pregnant and non-pregnant women and in pre-eclamptic women. METHODS Hemopexin activity and the hemopexin inhibitor, extracellular ATP, were assayed in plasma from pregnant (n = 10), preeclamptic (n = 9), and non-pregnant women (n = 10) using standard methods. Abdominal fascia tissue ...

Renal function during normal pregnancy and preeclampsia.

Glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow increase by 40 to 65 and 50 to 85%, respectively, during normal pregnancy in women. Studies using the gravid rat as a model have greatly enhanced our understanding of mechanisms underlying these remarkable changes in the renal circulation during gestation. Hyperfiltration is largely due to increased renal plasma flow, the latter attributable to p...

Glycogen phosphorylase isoenzyme BB plasma concentration is elevated in pregnancy and preterm preeclampsia.

Glycogen phosphorylase is a key enzyme in glycogenolysis. Released with myocardial ischemia, blood concentration of glycogen phosphorylase isoenzyme BB (GPBB) is a marker of acute coronary syndromes. Pregnancy imposes metabolic stress, and preeclampsia is associated with cardiac complications. However, plasma GPBB concentration during pregnancy is unknown. This study was conducted to determine ...

Venous distensibility during pregnancy. Comparisons between normal pregnancy and preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is associated with increased peripheral resistance. This study was performed to determine whether an increase of venous distensibility occurs as well in preeclampsia. We obtained venous distensibility by measuring the venous pressure-volume relation in the forearm with a water-filled plethysmograph. Twenty-one women with normal pregnancy, 12 women with severe preeclampsia, and 8 wo...

investigation of single-user and multi-user detection methods in mc-cdma systems and comparison of their performances
